Adopt-a-School

Through the generous support of individuals and partners like you, the Haas Foundation is realizing its goal of assisting all needy secondary students in Washington State. The minimum to adopt-a-school if the school is currently not funded is $200. There is no minimum to adopt-a-school if the school is active and eligible.

The Adopt-A-School program adds new schools to the list of over 800 secondary schools now eligible and receiving funds or can provide additional needed funding to an existing school. Individuals or groups can select one or more schools to fund. Click here to choose yours.

When you mail in your contribution 100% of your donation goes directly to the Haas Foundation. If the donation is made online, 97% of your donation goes directly to the Haas Foundation. Please note: we pay a small service fee (3%) for credit card contributions to our online provider, Groundspring.org. There are no other fees or charges for overhead expenses. In 2005 our Board of Directors voted to fund the 3% fee service fee from it's operating budget. So the good news is 100% of your online donation goes to the schools for the Haas fund.

When you adopt an existing eligble school, your donation* will be sent to the school you have selected within two weeks after we receive. For schools already eligible this is achievable.

*If the Haas Foundation has already provided a grant for the current year to the school, your donation replaces what the Foundation donated. This allows the Foundation to release its funds to start another school that is on our waiting list or to help a school that is under-funded. In many cases your donation may create an increase in the gift to the schools.

*If the Haas Foundation has provided funding but your donation is beyond the Foundation's allocation, the school will receive the difference.

When you adopt a school, you are not sharing in the funding, but rather you are taking the place of the Foundation in funding that school. When you adopt a NEW school, our staff will contact the principal who then needs to assign an employee to become the Haaas Foundation Coordinator in their building. Each coordinator for each building needs to attend a 1.5 hour training at our office in Seattle or review the PowerPoint tutorial, prior to our office releasing the funding to the school. We have found with your advocacy you can help us speed up the process by talking with the principal (if you know this person). Otherwise we will contact them with the goal in mind of establishing this fund sometime during the current school year.

Thank you for partnering with the Haas Foundation to meet the immediate needs of the secondary students (grades 6-12) within the state of Washington. Our goal is to serve 100% of the secondary school annually and with your help we are much closer.
